Living Will - A Will to Live

Went for my annual medical check-up this morning. Didn't have a perfect report but it was satisfactory to a certain extent. My blood pressure is still on the high side and so is my cholesterol level. Was advised to watch my diet and to exercise more, the same old advice that I would get whenever my doctor see my report. Was reminded that maintaining my blood pressure at a high level would not only affect the functions of my kidneys but it would also increase my chance of having a stroke or a heart attack. Was worried about that initially - imagine being paralysed or in a coma after a stroke - but after a while I have come to term with the idea. It's not that I don't mind becoming paralytic or worse a vegetable but I feel that if I were to ever end up in that condition I would rather end it all. I would be preparing my Living Will which will give the doctor the rights to remove me from any form of artificial support system in the event of me not being conscious to make that decision. I would also like to donate whatever functioning organs that I have left in me to whoever needs them - it would be a waste to destroy them when they can give others a new lease of life. I'm not trying to make myself sound magnanimous as I'm definitely not the first or only person to make such an offer. It's just something which I feel is logical to do - why not let others have the things which are useless to me. Of course, I'm not being pessimistic either - a Living Will is not only for the dying or the terminally-ill, in fact it's more for those who are healthy. We will never know when we will have our last meal and it is extremely difficult to get the family to agree to donate the organs under such circumstances. Thus, the document is prepared not because one is dying but rather because someone wants to continue living. Anyway, I'm sure I won't be breathing my last breathe just yet (touchwood) as I have yet to enjoy life to its fullest. In fact, I might have to disappoint those waiting for my organs as I might just live to a ripe old age and by then my organs would be quite useless. Have you prepared your Living Will yet so that you can give others a will to live?
